Understanding individual differences in Well-being

Living in times of and under the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic affects various aspects of our well-being that are individual to each of us. The aim of the Coping with Corona (CoCo) project is to investigate how people differ in terms of their well-being (e.g., life satisfaction, happiness, loneliness) based on their personality, social experiences, and stress management.

To this end, project leaders from the University of Osnabrück, WWU Münster, and LMU Munich have launched the CoCo project, which is funded by the German Research Foundation. Together with our project partners and international collaborators from more than 25 countries, we are aiming for the most comprehensive and generalizable results possible. We continue to work on expanding our network even further.

In our current international study, we will observe participants over a period of four weeks to learn more about their individual experiences and behaviors during the COVID 19 pandemic as well as their coping strategies and provide participants with individual feedback. Further studies will start in 2022. In all our studies, we will use state-of-the-art data collection methods (e.g., mobile sensing, experience sampling) to gain reliable insights that are as close as possible to our everyday lives.

Understanding the individual factors influencing everyday social life is key to managing health crises and a healthy return to normalcy. It further allows us to derive recommendations for future health crises.
