Beschreibung:
PLP: Stylistics is a reading course; those of you who have already taken PLP Advanced Reading might like to select an alternative class.
This course will approach the reading process from a new angle, namely of trying to view language as a bearer of meaning in itself, not merely in its lexical and semantic meanings. This includes examining the grammar, style, lexis, syntax, phonetics and rhetoric of language to explore ways in which language communicates with us. It will require a bit of a rethink about how you read, but it will be an enriching experience, I believe. We will read a selection of short fiction and literary extracts which students will present in class. Students will earn a credit for this course by writing a 2500-word paper containing a stylistic analysis of a text of their choice.
